              About Sigma Chi

The Sigma Chi Fraternity was founded June 28, 1855 by 7 men at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. With 223 active Chapters, Sigma Chi is the 2nd largest Fraternity in the nation. The international Fraternity boasts 220,000 alumni members and supports the Huntsman Cancer institute and Children’s Miracle Network through national philanthropic events.

The Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Chi at Penn State University has existed since May 27, 1891, and is the third oldest Fraternity at Penn State University. We strike the perfect balance of the intimacy and closeness of a larger chapter while still offering the best resources at Penn State. Our brotherhood embodies the cultivation of mind, body and spirit. Our Chapter GPA is 3.3. Our intramural teams have finished top 3 overall in the past 6 consecutive years. Our brothers come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and from all across the United States.

              * ΣX has more active alumni than all of the other fraternities' alumni combined*

*Sigma Chi ranks 2nd as the Fraternity with the most Fortune 500 CEOs *

Penn State Sigma Chi’s have… Won Olympic medals, become titans of industry (including CEO of PNC Bank), become astronauts, been influential in both Pennsylvania and national politics, played and captained various varsity athletic teams, held the position of student body and IFC president, and captured the United States Naval Academy’s mascot in 1955. The Sigma Chi pledge process consists of intellectual exercises to cultivate potential members into becoming brothers; this includes learning the history of Sigma Chi, the operational workings of Sigma Chi, leadership skills, and allows the potential members to become an integral part of the chapter before initiation. Sigma Chi trains young men how to be leaders.

              * On June 13, 2005, the US Congress officially recognized Sigma Chi's 150th anniversary. It was the first Greek letter society to be honored in such a way.*

*TIME Magazine has declared that Sigma Chi "is easily the most solid and well known Fraternity in America"*
